West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam 2017
WBJEE 2017 exam is a state level entrance test organized by West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board (WBJEEB). The eligibility of candidates is ascertained through WBJEE 2017 for admissions to undergraduate Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture courses in West Bengal. WBJEE 2017 is a common exam for filling seats in various government colleges, universities and self financing professional institutes in the state of West Bengal.
This manual is prepared for the convenience of students applying for WBJEE 2017 to understand the details about eligibility, application form, fee, exam pattern, syllabus, admit card, exam date, results and admission procedure related to the exam at a glance.
Schedule of WBJEE 2017 exam papers
WBJEE 2017 will be organized in two papers i.e., ‘Paper -1’ for Mathematics subject and ‘Paper-2’ for Physics & Chemistry subjects. The exam date was announced by WBJEEB in WBJEE 2017 Notification released recently. The exam for both the papers will be held on single day on 23rd April 2017 in two sessions as detailed below.
- WBJEE 2017 Paper – 1 (Mathematics): 23rd April 2017 (From 11:00AM to 01:00PM – 2 hours)
- WBJEE 2017 Paper - 2 (Physics & Chemistry): 23rd April 2017 (From 02:00PM to 04:00PM – 2 hours)
Mode of exam
The exam will be conducted in offline mode as pen and paper based exam for all types of admissions. The candidate shall answer the questions using a pen in an OMR sheet.
The candidates willing to appear in WBJEE 2017 shall comply with certain eligibilities for various admissions derived by the board failing which his/her candidature will be terminated and no refund of application fee shall be entertained. The eligibilities for various admissions is detailed below at a glance.
WBJEE 2017 - Eligibility Requirements
Lower and Upper age limits
Age limits for engineering / architecture / pharmacy courses:
- The lower age limit is atleast 17 years to be attained by the candidate as on 31st December 2017.
- No upper age restriction is fixed by the board for these courses.
Age limits for Marine engineering course:
- The lower age limit is atleast 17 years to be attained by the candidate as on 31st December 2017.
- The upper age limit is 25 years obtained as on 31st December 2017.
Any candidate born on or after 1st January 2001 shall not be eligible for admission to any course through WBJEE 2017.
According to corrigendum number WBE/EX NO-02 dated 5th January 2017 information bulletin is amanded in page number 9 and candidates born on or either 1st January 2017 are not eligible to appear in WBJEE 2017.
Citizenship and Domicile requirements
- The candidate willing to apply for WBJEE 2017 must be an Indian citizen.
- The candidate shall be domicile of West Bengal to be eligible for admission in government university/college.
- The candidate shall be domicile of West Bengal to be eligible for admission under reserved category quota in government university/college or private institute.
- The candidate who is non-domicile of West Bengal is eligible for admission in private institutes only under general category quota.
Academic eligibility requirements
Academic eligibility for admission through WBJEE 2017 is varied for different universities and other institutes and also varied for couple of courses like Marine engineering and Jute & Fibre technology.
Academic eligibility for engineering courses:
Eligibility for Calcutta University
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 60% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (55% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
Eligibility for Dept of Jute & Fibre technology (Culcatta University)
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 45% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry/biotechnology/biology ( 40% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
Eligibility for Jadavpur University
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 60% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (45% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
- Minimum of 60%marks are required in mathematics (45% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates).
Eligibility for other institutes
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 45% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (40% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
** For marine engineering course the eligibilities are as per the standards stipulated by director general of shipping along with 60% aggregate in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in 10+2, 50% in English either in class 10 or 10+2.
Academic Eligibility for Architecture course:
Eligibility for Jadavpur University
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 60% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (45% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
- A valid score in NATA conducted by the Council of Architecture or JEE main paper 2 conducted by CBSE is required.
Eligibility for other institutes
- A candidate should pass 10+2 with aggregate of 50% and mathematics as compulsory subject.
- A valid score in NATA conducted by the Council of Architecture or JEE main paper 2 conducted by CBSE is required.
Academic eligibility for Pharmacy courses:
Eligibility For Jadavpur University
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 60% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (45% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
Eligibility for other institutes
- A candidate should pass 10+2 from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from any recognized board in regular mode.
- A 45% aggregate in mathematics, physics, chemistry (40% for SC/ST/ PwD/OBC-A/OBC-B candidates) and individual pass marks in above subjects is compulsory. A minimum of 30% marks are required in English which is same for all category candidates.
All the candidates shall understand that the citizenship, domicile, age limits, academic qualifications and other required certificates or documents will not be verified by WBJEE 2017 organizing authority at the time of processing application form. Everything will be verified at the time of counselling and admission at university/institute level by concerned admitting authority. In the case if any candidate is found to be not satisfying eligibility requirements for admission at any stage (even after placed in merit list or got allotment of seat), his/her WBJEE 2017 candidature shall be forfeited and considered not eligible for admissions.
WBJEE 2017 - Application Form
WBJEE 2017 Application form will be available from 1st January 2017 and candidates shall fill and submit application form in online mode only. No physical form of application is available or sold by the board or WBJEE 2017 organizing authority. Last date for filling up and submission of online application form is 4th February 2017. It is essential to have a personal mobile number and e-mail to fill application form.

During filling the WBJEE 2017 application form a candidate has to upload the scanned images of recent photograph, signature and left hand thumb impression.
Note: Unlike JEE main 2017, providing AADHAAR details in the WBJEE 2017 application form is only optional.
Correction window for application form
The Candidate will be provided with correction window for WBJEE 2017 application form between 6th and 8th of February, 2017. The candidate can utilize this window to make changes in few fields that were wrongly filled during application process.
Correction window will not allow changes in Name, Date of Birth, Father’s name and Mother’s name. So candidates are advised to give greatest attention while filling these fields during initial application process.
WBJEE 2017 - Application Fee
All the candidates have to make a payment of Rs.500/- against application fee for WBJEE 2017 exam and no concession is given for reserved categories. Application fee shall be paid in online mode using credit card/debit card/ net banking or who opt for payment using cash can deposit the same in Allahabad Bank using e-challan generated during fee payment process.
Exam pattern
WBJEE 2017 consists of 2 questions papers i.e., Mathematics and Physics + Chemistry. Each paper will be divided in to 3 question categories.
Question Categories:
Each paper of WBJEE 2017 consists of 3 categories and each category question carries different marks and number of correct answers.
Question Category1:
In Question category 1 each question will have only one correct option and correct answer will reward one mark, ¼ a mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
Question category 2:
In Question category 2 each question will have only one correct option and correct answer will reward 2 marks, ½ a mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
Question category3:
In Question category 3 each question will have one or more correct options and correct answer will reward 2 marks, partially correct answer with no incorrect option marked will reward marks equal to 2 multiplied with number of correct options marked divided by total number of correct options. This category doesn’t carry negative marking.

WBJEE 2017 - Syllabus
The syllabus for WBJEE 2017 papers is derived to be as following taught till 10+2 level.

Algebra, Trigonometry, Coordinate geometry of two dimensions, Co-ordinate geometry of three dimensions and Calculus.
Syllabus for Physics
Physical World, Measurements, Units & dimensions, Kinematics, Laws of motion, Motion of centre of mass, connected systems, Friction, Gravitation, Bulk properties of matter, Viscosity, Thermodynamics, Kinetic theory of gases, Oscillations & Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics I (Ray optics), Optics II (Wave Optics), Atomic Physics, Nuclear Physics and Solid state Electronics.
Syllabus for Chemistry

WBJEE Admit card 2017
WBJEE 2017 Admit cards will be available for download from 12th April 2017 and candidate has to carry a printed copy of admit card affixed with photograph for admission into exam centre. No candidate will be allowed to take WBJEE 2017 exam without the admit card.
Candidate has to preserve his/her admit card in good condition till the admission procedure completes. No duplicate admit card shall be generated once the exam is concluded. Admit card is the primary eligibility for appearing in WBJEE 2017 only and his/her candidature shall be cancelled at any stage if found ineligible for admissions.
WBJEE 2017 Admit card shall contain the following information.
- Name of the candidate
- Personal information
- Photo and Signature
- Roll number
- Exam venue/centre
- Time of exam
- Instructions for exam
Any of the data published on WBJEE 2017 admit card is found incorrect shall be taken to notice of the board for required corrective actions.
Allocation of examination centre
Allocation of examination centre shall be done by WBJEEB based on the choice of “Exam centre” filled up by the candidate during application process. However it is board’s discretion finally to allocate exam centre. The candidate from Assam and West Bengal can choose up to 3 zones of their preference. All the candidates from other states can choose any of 3 zones from Howrah / Kolkata / North 24 Pgs / South 24 Pgs.

WBJEE 2017 - Results and merit list
Evaluation of WBJEE 2017 exam papers and declaration of result shall be done by the board once the entrance exam is concluded.
Initially a ‘WBJEE 2017 Model answer key’ will be published on the board website www.wbjeeb.nic.in,that can be challenged by the candidate by logging in to the portal. For challenging the answer key candidate shall pay a non-refundable amount of Rs.500/- for each question challenged.
In next step board will analyze veracity of questions challenged with the help of constituted expert committee and publish final and frozen answer key for WBJEE 2017 after making changes for accepted challenged questions.
Final results and merit list will be evaluated based on the final answer key, and published on the board website in the form of “WBJEE 2017 Rank cards”. The candidates can download the rank card from their candidate portal by logging in using his/her password.
Counselling and admission procedure
Seat allotment for admissions will be done trough separate online counselling held on wbjeeb.nic.in. The candidates will be provided with option registration window where candidates can workout and register their ‘choices of preference’ based on the rank obtained by him/her and previous year college wise cutoffs.
Allotment will be done purely based on the merit obtained in WBJEE 2017 and choices filled by the candidates. Counselling will be done in several rounds and WBJEE 2017 counselling notification will be released after announcing the results. Candidate who got admission through WBJEE 2017 counselling has to appear at the reporting centre for verification of documents and accept the allotment of seat.
