Joint Entrance Exam Advanced - JEE Advanced 2017

Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) is conducted by consortium of IITs in guidance of Joint Admissions Board, to admit meritorious candidates into various under graduate programs offered by 23 IITs spread across India. Admissions are handled by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and outcome of the under graduate courses lead to Bachelors, Integrated Masters and Dual degree Bachelors + Masters in engineering, sciences, pharmaceutical and architecture branches. JEE Advanced is conducted at national level, both Indian and foreign nationals are eligible to appear the exam. There are 10% supernumerary seats available in each course at IITs to provide admissions to foreign nationals. JEE Advanced 2017 is to be conducted by IIT Madras, all the dates were announced by the institute, and exam is scheduled to be conducted on 21 May, 2017 in 2 different sessions. Candidates who wish to join Architecture programs have to attend the “Architecture Aptitude Test” which will be conducted after JEE Advanced results are announced.

Candidates willing to join the under graduate programs in IITs have to appear JEE Advanced, and to appear in this exam candidates have to clear JEE Main conducted by the CBSE. Candidates who got a place in top 2,20,000 scorers including all categories in paper 1 of JEE Main, are only eligible to appear JEE Advanced In the same academic year.  Performance in this exam is the sole criteria for admission into IITs. Some other top institutes that include IISc, IIST Thiruvananthapuram, RGIPT Raibareli and IIPE Visakapatnam admit eligible candidates into under graduate programs using JEE (Advanced) Ranks. Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) will be conducted to derive merit of the candidates for Architecture programs and candidates who qualified in JEE Advanced are eligible for appearing AAT.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates shall pass 10+2 from any recognized board with 75% (65% for SC/ST) aggregate or should place in top 20 percentile within the board results with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as main subjects.
  • Candidates shall posses 3 year diploma recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.
  • Candidates shall have been born after 1st of October 1992 and five years relaxation is for SC/ST.
  • Candidates who have appeared JEE Advanced 2016 for first time are eligible, as a candidate is allowed to take the exam for a maximum 2 times in consecutive academic years.
  • Candidates who have passed qualifying exam in 2016 and candidates who are to appear final exam in 2017 are only eligible for admissions.
  • Candidates who joined / accepted the admission or canceled in any of IITs earlier are not eligible.
  • Candidates who have been joined preparatory course for the first time in 2016 in any of the IITs can appear.

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced contains 2 papers and candidates have to take both the papers to qualify in the exam. Each paper is conducted for duration 3 hours and paper 1 is conducted from 9:00AM to 12:00PM, paper 2 is conducted from 2:00PM to 5:00PM in the same day. Question paper will be available in English and Hindi language. Both paper 1 and paper 2 have 3 separate sections covering questions from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.  Questions papers contain objective type and numerical answer type questions and candidates have to bubble the ORS (Optical Response Sheets).

Every year total number of questions and total marks for JEE (Advanced) varies and some of the questions will have negative marking.  Objective of the exam is to test the candidate’s ability in reasoning, comprehension and analytical skills. All the 3 subjects will have equal weightage in both paper -1 and paper -2.

JEE (Advanced) 2017

IIT Madras is the organizing institute of JEE Advanced 2017 and exam will be held on 21st of May 2017. Application process will start from 28th April 2017 and applications will be accepted till 2nd May 2017. This year number of JEE Main top scorers who can take JEE Advanced has been increased from 2 Lakhs to 2 Lakhs 20 Thousands. JEE Main 2017 offline exam will be conducted on 2nd April 2017. Exam for both papers will be held on 21st May, 2017 in 2 different sessions on the same day. Schedule of JEE Advanced 2017 exam is as listed below.

JEE Advanced 2017 Application Process

JEE Main 2017 results will be declared on 27th April 2017 and aspirants who are in top 2,22,000 scorers are eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2017. Online registration portal will be available from 28th April and registration will be closed on 2nd May 2017. Registration fee for exam is Rs 2400/- for general candidates and (Rs 1200/- for SC/ST/PwD and Female) which has to be paid online through Debit/Credit/Net banking only. Candidates can register on 3rd and 4th of May, 2017 with a late fee Rs 500/- in addition to application fee of Rs 2400/-.

During the registration candidates have to upload the scanned copies of class x certificate, class 10+2 certificate and other required documents in prescribed format.

JEE Advanced 2017 Admit Cards

Successful applicants can download the admit card from 10th May 2017 till the exam date. Admit cards of JEE Advanced 2017 contain Name, Roll number, photograph, signature, DOB, Category of the candidates and Language in which candidate wish to appear the exam. One shall check the printed details for correctness and in case found any discrepancy have to contact the zonal IITs for rectification.

JEE Advanced 2017 exam date is 21st May 2017 and Candidates have to carry the printout of admit card on that date along with original photo identity card to the examination center. Without a valid admit card and photo id proof no candidate is allowed to take the exam.  Candidates are advised to report the test center well in advance to complete the verification formalities as no one will be allowed to take test once commences.

JEE Advanced 2017 Rank Lists

Candidates who appeared in both paper-1 & paper-2 are only considered for ranking and candidates who scored a minimum prescribed marks in each subject are only included in the rank lists. Candidates shall score minimum of 10% (9% for OBC 5% for SC/ST/PwD and 2.5% for Preparatory) in each subject and have to score an aggregate of 35% (included Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) to qualify. JEE Advanced 2017 Results will be announced on 11th June, All India Rank list and category wise rank list will be published accordingly. Once the exam is concluded online display of ORS and scanned responses will be published on website and JEE Advanced 2017 provisional answer key will be released on 4th June 2017. Upon rectification of answer key final results will be announced.

Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) 2017 for B.Arch Admissions

Bachelor of Architecture is available only at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorke.  Candidates who qualified JEE advanced 2017 are only eligible to appear “Architecture Aptitude Test” to get eligible for B.Arch programs.  Registration window for AAT will be available from June 11th and online registration will be closed on 12th June 2017. Candidates have to register online through JEE Advanced website and no separate admit cards will be provided as admit cards for JEE advanced 2017 are enough to attend the exam.

AAT will be conducted for duration of 3 hours, question paper will be available only in English and candidates have to bring their own drawing aids to attend the test.  Candidates who scored above the cutoff marks are eligible for admissions and no separate rank list will be published. AAT 2017 results will be announced on 18th June 2017. Seat allocation will be based on category wise All India Rank obtained in JEE Advanced 2017 only, AAT scores are only to qualify for Architecture admissions.
