Joint Entrance Exam (Main) - JEE Main 2017

Joint Entrance Exam - JEE Main is the qualifying exam conducted by CBSE on behalf of MHRD to derive the merit of the candidates for admissions into NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. It is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced conducted by consortium of IITs for admissions into IITs. Exam will be conducted at all India level and JEE Main ranks are utilized to admit the eligible candidates into under graduate engineering courses offered at NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. JEE Main is conducted once in an academic year and exam is conducted in offline and online formats. Some national level individual institutions are also using JEE Main scores to admit the candidates.  JEE Main has 2 papers from which paper 1 will be for admissions to B.E./B.Tech., courses and paper 2 is for admissions into B.Arch./ B.Plan. courses.

JEE Main is also conducted outside India and paper 1 will be conducted in both modes at Bahrain, Dubai, Muscat, Riyadh and Sharjah.  Paper 2 will be pen and paper model conducted everywhere.

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland and Odisha states joined the JEE Main system and admission into the under graduate engineering courses offered t these state level institutions will be done based on JEE Main scores. States participated in the JEE Main system may have different admission criteria and candidates are advised to go through the state wise eligibilities.

JEE Main score is the getaway to appear JEE Advanced and only top 220000 JEE Main 2017 scorers are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2017 exam.  JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible to admit into IITs and ISM Dhanbad.

Admissions will be done through centralized allotment process conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) based on JEE Main (AIR) All India Ranks.

CBSE has released the admission notice and JEE Main 2017 offline exam will be held on 2nd April, 2017. Online exam will be conducted 8th and 9th of April, 2017.

JEE Main Eligibility

  • Candidate shall have born after 1st October 1992 (5 years exemption for SC/ST/PwD).
  • Candidates who passed 10+2 or equivalent exam in the year 2015 or 2016 or who will appear final exam of 10+2 in 2017 are eligible.
  • Candidates shall posses 3 year diploma recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education (only eligible for admissions into IITs).
  • Candidates are allowed to take maximum of 3 appearances for JEE Main.
  • Candidates must have studied 5 subjects in the qualifying exam.
  • Candidates shall study Mathematics, and Physics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject to be eligible for B.E./B.Tech.
  • Candidates shall study Mathematics as compulsory subject along with other subjects to be eligible for B.Arch./B.Plan. admissions.
  • Candidates shall score 75% (65% for SC/ST) in class 12th for eligibility to IITs, NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs admissions.

JEE Main Exam Modes

CBSE will conduct the JEE Main paper 1 in 2 in different modes i.e. online and offline mode. Offline mode is pen and paper based exam and online mode is of CBT model. JEE main paper 2 will be completely offline mode and is of pen and paper model.

JEE Main paper 1 Exam pattern and Syllabus

JEE Main paper 1 is conducted to admit candidates into engineering/technological courses and exam pattern is of objective type. JEE Main paper 1 question paper (weather offline or online) consists of 360 MCQ type questions which has to be answered in 180 minutes. Each question will carry 4 marks and 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

JEE Main paper 1 will have 3 sections covering subjects Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each section will have 120 questions and syllabus covers subjects taught at 10+2 level.

JEE Main Paper 2 Exam pattern and Syllabus

JEE Main Paper 2 is conducted to admit candidates into first year B.Arch. courses offered at CFTIs. Paper 2 of JEE Main is conducted in offline mode and syllabus covers Mathematics taught at 10+2 level and candidates general aptitude and drawing skills. Test paper will have a total of 82 questions and exam will be conducted for 390 marks and duration is 3 hours.

Mathematics section will have 30 questions carrying 120 marks and aptitude test section will have 50 questions carrying 200 marks. JEE main paper 2 drawing test will have 2 questions and will fetch 70 marks in total. Mathematics and Aptitude test sections will have MCQ type questions and Drawing Test is of descriptive type .There is no negative marking in paper 2 and exam is conducted in single calendar day.  Here is the subject wise question distribution as mentioned below.

JEE Main 2017

CBSE has announced the JEE Main 2017 exam dates and applications are accepted from 1st December 2016. Applications will be accepted till 2nd January 2017 and application fee can be paid till 3rd January 2017. JEE Main 2017 Paper 1 and Paper 2 offline mode exams are conducted on 2nd April and Paper 1 online exam will be conducted on 8th and 9th of April 2017 in different sessions. Online exam will be held from 9.30AM to 12.30PM as forenoon session and from 2.00PM to 5.00PM as afternoon session. From 2017 onwards JEE Main 2017 exam paper is available in English, Hindi and Guajarati languages.

JEE Main 2017 Registration and Application Process

Aspirants willing to appear JEE Main 2017 have to apply online and application fee is also accepted online only. From this year onwards AADHAAR number is mandatory to apply for JEE Main 2017 and AADHAAR number has to be provided in the application form.

JEE Main 2017 application process involves 3 steps and candidates have to do onetime registration to start with. After onetime registration candidates will receive application number and password which can be used for further application filling.

In the first step candidates have to fill the personal and educational details. During the step 1 itself candidates have to give choice of the exam center where maximum of 4 test cities can be selected by a candidate. Candidates have to mention the exam mode (offline/online) and number of papers (paper 1/paper 2/both) in the step 1 itself.

After filling the step 1, candidates have to upload the scanned images of recent photograph and signature, to complete the step 2. All images should be in the prescribed format and size.

After completing the image upload candidates have to pay the prescribed fee to finish the JEE Main 2017 application. JEE Main 2017 application fee particulars are as tabled below.

JEE Main 2017 Admit Cards

Admit cards for JEE Main 2017 will be available from 2nd week of March and successful applicants can download from JEE Main website. Admit card bears Name, Paper, Date of Birth, Gender, Test centre name, City, State code of eligibility and Category. Candidates if found any discrepancy in the information provided on the admit card has to contact the call center for corrective actions.

JEE Main 2017 Results

JEE Main 2017 results will be announced on 27th April and candidates who scored the cutoff marks will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2017. Cutoff scores for JEE Advanced 2017 will be declared on the same day.
