Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test - TANCET 2016
Tamilnadu common entrance test is conducted by Anna University for admission into various post graduate programs across Universities, Government aided engineering, arts & science colleges and self financed private institutions in Tamilnadu state. Candidates seeking admission in to M.B.A., M.C.A. & M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. programs have to appear TANCET 2016, an online window is available from 2nd may 2016 to 17th of may 2016 for registration.
TANCET 2016 registration is done only through online and candidates have to register by logging to www.annauniv.edu/tancet2016. There will be 3 separate tests for MBA, MCA and other engineering programs. A sum of Rs500 (250 for SC/SCAST)has to be paid for each test and Candidate who wish apply for one or more tests have to pay Rs.500 for each test. Payment for entrance test is also done through online only.
Online Registration and Hall Ticket Download:
Candidates have to register on official website and create a user id and password providing name and email ID, upon successful registration candidate has to login and fill the academic particulars and has to upload the photo, after the submission of application candidate has to do the payment online. Once the payment is done, completed application will be generated in PDF format and will be available for download. Candidate has to note down the application number for future reference. Hall tickets are available for download online on announced dates and candidate can download providing login id and password.
Academic Eligibility
Eligibility for MBA
- Candidate should have passed a bachelor degree of minimum 3yrs duration with 50% aggregate (45% for reserved candidates) in 10+2+3 pattern or 10+3year diploma+3yr degree pattern or passed in BE/BTECH/BARCH/BPHARM or passed in 10+2+AMIE pattern or 10+3yr diploma + AMIE.
- AMIE candidates who passed sections A&B with 2yrs of professional experience are only eligible for TANCET 2016
- Candidates appearing for final year of qualifying exams and whose results are awaited are also eligible to appear TANCET 2016 and are subjected to minimum eligibility criteria for admission.

- Candidate should have passed a bachelor degree of minimum 3yrs duration with 50% aggregate (45% for reserved candidates) in 10+2+3 pattern or 10+3year diploma+3yr degree pattern or passed in 10+2+AMIE pattern or 10+3yr diploma + AMIE.

- Candidate should have passed a bachelor degree of minimum 3yrs duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science / Information Technology) with 50% aggregate (45% for reserved candidates) in 10+2+3 pattern.
- Candidate should study mathematics as major subject either in 10+2 or at graduation level.
- Candidates appearing for final year of qualifying exams and whose results are awaited are also eligible to appear TANCET 2016 and are subjected to minimum eligibility criteria for admission.
Eligibility for M.E. / M.Tech. /M.Arch./M.Plan
- Candidate should have passed a bachelor degree in relevant discipline with 50% aggregate (45% for Reserved candidates) in BE/BTECH/BARCH/BPHARM or passed in 10+2+AMIE pattern or 10+3yr diploma + AMIE pattern or Masters degree in science in relevant branch.
- AMIE candidates who have passed sections A&B with 2yrs of professional experience are only eligible for TANCET 2016.
- Candidates appearing for final year of qualifying exams and whose results are awaited are also eligible to appear TANCET 2016 and are subjected to minimum eligibility criteria for admission.
Question paper pattern, exam duration and Syllabus
For MBA
- Question paper for MBA has 5 sections and will determine the candidate’s skills in reading comprehension, grammar, data sufficiency and mathematical calculations(at the standard of 10+2 level).
- Question paper consists of 100 MCQ questions with 4 options with single correct answer. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
- Exam duration is 120mins.
Syllabus for MCA
- Question paper for MCA has 4 sections and will determine the candidate’s skills in Quantitative ability, Analytical reasoning, Logical reasoning, Computer awareness, verbal ability and basic sciences.
- Question paper consists of 100 MCQ questions with 4 options with single correct answer. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
- Exam duration is 120mins.
Syllabus for M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan.
TANCET 2016 for M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. Consists of 3 parts, part 1 & part 2 are common for all the candidates and part 3 is specialization paper on relevant subject.
- Part 1 having questions in engineering mathematics with Determinants and Matrices, Calculus and Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Functions of Complex Variables and Complex Integration, Transforms, Numerical Methods and Applied Probability as syllabus.
- Part1 Question paper consists of 20 MCQ questions with 4 options with single correct answer. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
- Part2 having questions in basic engineering sciences with Applied Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computers, and Chemistry as syllabus.
- Part2 Question paper consists of 35 MCQ questions with 4 options with single correct answer. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
- Part3 will have questions in the specialization opted by candidate, consists of 40 MCQ questions with 4 options with single correct answer. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer
- Exam duration is 120mins.

Important things to note for TANCET 2016
- Candidates admitted through lateral entry in to 3 yr degree courses are not eligible for TANCET 2016
- Candidates who passed qualifying exam through distance or part time mode are not eligible for M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan.
- Candidates obtained degree without 10th and 10+2 are not eligible for TANCET 2016.
- Other state candidates can appear for TANCET 2016 subject to eligibility criteria.
- Hall ticket has to be preserved by the candidate till the admission process.
- Marks sheet will be available for download for 10days from the result publication date and need to produce at the time of admission.
- Candidates aspiring for admission into engineering streams with a valid GATE score need not appear for TANCET 2016.
