NATA 2017 - The National Aptitude Test for Architecture popularly known as NATA is an eligibility test conducted by council of Architecture to ascertain the merit of candidates who are willing to pave career in Architecture.  NATA 2017 is single eligibility entrance test where qualified candidates will be eligible for admissions into five year B.Arch. program offered across colleges in India.  NATA has been become mandatory for under graduate architecture admissions except admissions in B.Arch. offered at IITs. Admission into IITs will be based on JEE Main paper-2 conducted by CBSE.

NATA 2017 exam schedule

COA has announced the NATA 2017 exam schedule and exam will be held on 16th April 2017 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. From 2017 academic year onwards NATA will be conducted once in a year in single calendar day.

NATA 2017 Exam pattern and mode of answering

The NATA 2017 exam is conducted in English for duration of 3 hours for a total score of 200. The test paper is divided into 2 parts, where first 90 minutes of test paper will be pen and paper model with 60 MCQ questions. It contains mathematics and general aptitude sections having 30 MCQ each and carry 2 marks for every right answer. Though there is no negative marking for wrong answer in NATA, number of wrongly answered questions will be considered while resolving tie breaking situation. In this part NATA 2017 paper candidates have to answer on OMR sheet with blue /black ball point pen only.

The part 2 of NATA 2017 is drawing test which will have 2 questions carrying 40 marks each. This section test the candidate’s drawing, creative and visual skills and candidates have to answer each question on separate drawing sheet. The candidates have to answer this part in last 90 minutes of the NATA 2017 exam. Each drawing sheet will be examined by more than one examiner and marks awarded will be averaged.

General aptitude section will have 30 MCQ questions and questions that will be derived from topics related to Objects, Texture related to architecture and built environment, Interpretation of pictorial compositions, Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawing, Visualizing different sides of 3D objects,  Analytical reasoning, Mental ability (visual, numerical and verbal), Awareness of national/ international architects and their creations.

Drawing test section will have 2 questions to which candidates have to answer in separate drawing sheets. These questions may related to understanding of scale and proportion of objects, geometric composition, shape, building forms and elements, aesthetics, colour texture, harmony and contrast, conceptualization and visualization,  drawing of patterns - both geometrical and abstract. Form transformations in 2D and 3D like union, subtraction, rotation, surfaces and volumes, generating plan, elevation and 3D views of objects, creating 2D and 3D compositions using given shape and forms, Perspective drawing, sketching of urbanscape and landscape.

Note: Candidates have to carry their own clipboard, pen, pencil, eraser and color pencils for the exam.

NATA 2017 Eligibility requirements

Candidates shall meet the following criteria to appear for NATA

  • The candidate shall attain the age of 17 by 31st of July 2017
  • Candidates shall pass 10+2 or 10+3 with Mathematics as one of the subject.

Or

Candidate shall complete International baccalaureate after 10 years of schooling with mathematics as compulsory subject.

Eligibility requirements for B.Arch. admissions

  • Candidates shall qualify in NATA
  • Candidates shall pass 10+2 or 10+3 or international baccalaureate with 50% marks with mathematics as compulsory subject.

NATA 2017 application form and filling process

COA is accepting NATA 2017 application form starting from 4th January 2017 on http://www. nata.nic.in website. Aspirants shall apply through online only. Candidates have to click on “ONLINE APPLICATION NATA– 2017” link to start application process. Last date to fill online NATA 2017 application form is 2nd February 2017. Application process involves 3 major steps.

Step 1 - Filling personal details

In personal details section candidates have to provide all personal, educational and commutation details.  Candidates have to choose password during filling the personal details and after successful submission a seven digit unique application number will be generated.  The 7 digit application number and password set will be used for subsequent logins.

Step 2 - Document uploading

In this phase candidates have to upload soft copy of the following documents as per prescribed format and size mentioned below. All the documents shall be in JPEG/JPG format. Images uploads will be allowed till 11:59 PM of 3rd February 2017.

Step 3 – NATA 2017 fee payment

On successful uploading of the documents, system will navigate to fee payment window. NATA 2017 application fee can be paid through online or by e-challan payable at ICICI bank. Candidates can remit the fee through electronic payment gateway using credit card/debit card or net banking.

Applicants who wish to pay the fee through ICICI e-challan has to take the printout of the challan from NATA website. The candidates have to pay the requisite amount at any ICICI bank branch and need to update the payment details on NATA 2017 portal.

Once the fee payment details are updated a confirmation page will be generated. Candidates have to preserve the hard copy of confirmation page for future reference. Applicants can pay the fee in either mode till 4th February of 2017.  

NATA 2017 application fee particulars

Candidates applying for NATA 2017 have to remit Rs.1250/- as application fee which can be paid either online or through e-challan. No concession is given in application fee for reserved category candidates.

NATA 2017 application mistakes and correction

The candidates whose applications have any information discrepancy can rectify on specific dates, and COA will allow them to furnish correct details. The candidate correction window will be available from 10:30AM of 20th February to11:59Pm of 24th February 2017.

NATA 2017 test centres

NAT A 2017 is organized in 69 test cities across India. During application phase only the candidate has to select the examination city where he wishes to appear NATA 2017. Candidates can give up to 3 test city choices in order of preference and here is the list with city codes.

NATA 2017 admit card

All successful candidates who applied to NATA 2017 can download the admit card from 26.03.2017 (10:30 AM) from www.nata.in website. The admit card contains candidate’s name, details of allotted examination center, examination roll number, candidate’s photograph and signature. The candidates have to carry the print out of the downloaded NATA 2017 admit card to the test venue and have to present along with original photo identity card and one photograph identical to uploaded one.

All candidates are advised to retain the admit card in good condition till the admission process concludes.

NATA 2017 results and merit list

Soon after the examination, COA will make available the model answer key for MCQ section on website for feedback.  The response sheet of each candidate along with marks secured will be uploaded and allow the candidates for request of rechecking. The candidates can request for rechecking by paying Rs.1000/- .

Results for NATA 2017 will be declared on 10th June 2017 and results will be available in 3 below mentioned formats. 

  • Total marks obtained out of 200 in each section
  • Merit lists based on marks
  • Percentile based merit lists

NATA 2017 qualifying marks and validity

The candidates have to score 25% from MCQ (30 out of 120) and 25% (30 out of 120) in drawing test to qualify in NATA 2017. COA will declare the overall qualifying marks (out of 200) and will be based on post exam statistics.  NATA 2017 scores are valid for 2017 admission year only.
