NID Design Aptitude Test - DAT 2017

Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is conducted by National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad to evaluate the merit of eligible candidates for under graduate and post graduate programs offered at various NID campuses across India. Design Aptitude Test has 2 stages and conducted as DAT prelims and DAT Mains. Initially DAT prelims will be conducted for all the applicants and shortlisted candidates who attain the cutoff marks in DAT prelims will be allowed to take DAT Mains.  NID offers B.Des., GDPD and M.Des. Programmes with wide variety of Specializations offered at Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore, Kurukshetra and Vijayawada campuses. All the admissions are based on performance in the DAT prelims and DAT Mains and both scores have weightage (as decided by the senate of the institute) in the final selection. NID Ahmedabad has announced the Admission dates and DAT 2017 prelims is scheduled to be conducted on 8th January 2017.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for B.Des, GDPD (Graduate Diploma programme in Design) and M.des. programmes for Admission into NID Ahmedabad  are as listed below.

B.Des. & GDPD Eligibility

  • Candidates shall pass 10+2 from any discipline in the current academic year from any recognized board.
  • Candidates up to 20 years of age on or before 30th June of admission year (3 years relaxation for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-NCL) are eligible for admissions.

M.Des. Eligibility

  • Candidates with Bachelor Degree in any discipline (10+2+4 or more system) or Diploma in Design Under 10+2+4 system)
  • Candidates with Bachelor degree in any discipline (10+2+3 system) from any recognized university/institute.
  • Candidates up to 30 years of age on or before 30th June of Admission year (3 years relaxation for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-NCL) are eligible for admissions.
  • Candidates who are appearing final year of qualifying exam before admissions year are also eligible to apply.

DAT 2017 Exam Pattern

Design Aptitude Test is divided into DAT prelims and DAT mains.  Design Aptitude Test Prelims is same for both U.G. and P.G. courses.  Separate shortlists will be published for UG and PG programmes and shortlisted candidates will be eligible for Design Aptitude Test Mains, and test pattern and schedule for B.Des. and M.Des. is completely different.

DAT Prelims

DAT prelims primarily conducted to assess the candidates Knowledge, Comprehension, Analysis, Creativity and Visualization skills. Exam will be conducted for 100 points, test pattern is pen and paper model and is conducted for 3 hours. Test paper contains 2 parts, part -1 carrying 70 points will have MCQ type questions with one or more correct answers. Candidates have to bubble the OMR sheets with blue /black ballpoint pens only. Part-2 carrying 30 points will have subjective type questions where candidates have to answer in visual or written format. Question paper will be in English language and there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

DAT Mains

Candidates who scored cutoff marks in DAT prelims will be shortlisted for DAT Mains and a separate test will be conducted for B.Des.& GDPD  and M.Des  aspirants.

DAT Mains for B.Des & GDPD - Test Pattern

DAT Mains for Bachelor programs will test the candidates artistry skills like Drawing/Sketching, Hands on model making, Group discussion and Presentations. Exam will be in English language and conducted for 100 points.

DAT Mains for M.Des programmes - Test Pattern

DAT Mains for Master of Design programs will have studio test and Interview. Studio test carries 100 points and test the candidates talent in Drawing/Sketching, Hands on modeling and performance in the group discussions. DAT mains interview will be conducted for each specialization separately after the studio test.

Programs Offered

NID Ahmedabad is offering B.Des and GDPD at graduate level and M.Des. at post graduate level with variety of specializations in Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Bengalore, Kurukshetra and Vijayawada Campuses. GDPD is offered at Krukshetra and Vijayawada campuses only.

NID DAT 2017

National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad - Admissions schedule for 2017-18 has been announced and released the exam dates for DAT 2017. Applications will be accepted from 25th October, 2016 and last date for applying on line is 28th November, 2016. DAT Prelims 2017 for both UG and PG programmes will be conducted from 10:00AM to 1:00PM on 8th January 2017. DAT Mains 2017 will be held from 13th to 31st March, 2017 for M.Des and from 15th to 20th May, 2017 for B.Des. & GDPD programmes. Admissions will be concluded by the end of May 2017.

DAT 2017 Application Process

Design Aspirants have to Register Online from institute website. Upon providing details like Nationality, Category, DOB and Email id candidates can create login to fill the application. In the next step candidates have to provide Personal details, Educational details and have to upload the required documents to proceed for DAT 2017 Application fee Payment.

Candidates can pay the application fee either by online mode or through DD. Upon Payment authorization, candidates are advised to take a printout of the filled application for future references. Master of Design aspirants can apply for only 2 disciplines during application process.

Candidates who paid the application fee in the form of DD have to send the DD and printed application to “The Project Manager–CMS All India Management Association Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi 110 003 India” to reach before 2nd December, 2016. Candidates can apply till 2nd December 2016 with a late fee of amount equal to double the application fee.

DAT 2017 Admit Cards

Admit Cards for DAT 2017 prelims will be available for download from 20th December, 2016 on NID website and candidates have to take a printout of the Admit card and have to produce the same at test venue. DAT 2017 Mains Admit cards for B.Des. & GDPD will be available from 7th March and Admit cards for M.des. programmes Will be available from 14th February 2017.

DAT 2017 Test Centers

DAT 2017 prelims will be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar,Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Kurukshetra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Panjim, Raipur, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada test centers. DAT 2017 Mains will be conducted at one of NID’s campuses in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru or Gandhinagar

DAT 2017 Results and NID Admissions

DAT 2017 final merit list will be prepared based on final scores computed with weightage on both prelims and mains, where weightage will be decided by the Senate of institute. First merit list for M.Des. will be announced on 2nd May, 2017 and Merit list for B.Des. & GDPD will be announced on 31st May 2017. Candidates can download their scores and ranks by logging to the admission portal.
